AI - generated art: Creativity or cheating?
Alright, alright, we'll admit it; we use AI! But, nowadays, who doesn't? It can be such a useful tool for helping you achieve goals, or even achieving them for you! But, is this lazy? Cheating? Or simply a helping hand - a virtual helping hand? Here's what we think;
AI isn't magic - its like a student in a secondary school - following rules. All the time. It uses what it knows already to generate its response to your question - whether you want to know the square root of 395,600 (629) or want to know how to make those sickening onion pies, it knows. But not everything. I tried asking it what Luminym Media is, and it came back with this:
"Right now, there isn’t a well‑known public business or brand officially called “Luminym Media” that shows up in major business directories, company registries, or well‑indexed search results — so it’s very likely that the exact name is either:
✨ a slight misspelling,
✨ a private/very new small business without much online presence, or
✨ an internal name people use informally but that’s not the official company name yet."
Slight misspelling I don't think so! Anyways, Ai uses machine learning, which is like going to secondary school, but without the toilet restrictions, constant uniform wearing, and that one teacher nobody can stand, even the other teachers! It can exist like this because the learning isn't in person; it's online! Anyway, enough ranting, let's get back to the question.
Is using AI to generate art cheating? YES YES YES. (if you're making money off it.)
In our opinion, making money off AI generated content is like making money for typing a few words up. (What I'm doing, but I write slightly shorter essays.) It is an insult to all of those historic artists who got famous because they managed to take photographs before cameras existed.
Using it for inspiration is not cheating, though. Because you're still creating it, and you can make changes when you want, and you're still putting time and effort into your work! We use AI for inspiration all of the time. Whoops, TMI.
Bye Yall!!!!
